Celtic’s League Cup final win broke Rangers, their manager and their fans in more ways than the Hoops’ support could have wished for.
The meltdown after being beaten by Celtic in the League Cup final has been absolutely spectacular.
From Rangers fans blaming Catholic’s, to talkSPORT man David Tanner crying about the penalty not awarded against Celtic, the complete and utter breakdown of the Ibrox support has been absolutely brilliant.
But it wasn’t as good as Philippe Clement’s.
Philippe Clement’s referee comments after Rangers lost to Celtic could spark SFA action
Post-match, Clement was clearly hurting when he said, “Yes, of course. He cannot see that moment, but he didn’t get the communication from the VAR to come and watch the screen.
“That’s for me a really weird situation, that at least there’s no look about that kind of situation in this kind of game. About the situation that the referee can make a decision.
“So, last thing, I hope that you guys really dig in to things, I hope. Thank you.” [The National]
Insinuation that the match officials are bent after not being awarded a penalty is a no-no and urging journalists to investigate the match officials is something that former referee, Keith Hackett, says that could get the Rangers boss into trouble with the SFA.
Clement’s Celtic comments could lead to SFA ‘action’ against Rangers boss
Hackett, as we all know, is a pro-Rangers ex-ref so when even he says the Ibrox boss could get into trouble then you know it could be serious.
Hackett said, “Clement is allowed to write to a letter, or pick up the phone to the FA and Collum, if he’s not happy.
“Collum would no doubt have agreed to meet him. The point here is that, if you question the integrity of a match official, which these comments appear to, it’s down to the Scottish FA to take action on the manager’s comments.
“It’s not good enough. Referees don’t question errors made by players. The channels in place are there for him to express his concerns. These comments don’t help with the integrity of the competition. It’s a crass statement that shouldn’t have been made.”
It’s been nearly two weeks since Clement made these comments and the SFA have done, well, S.F.A.
Which is quite remarkable considering Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was cited for calling John Beaton incompetent last season. Which was the truth in many people’s eyes.
It is unlikely now that the Ibrox boss is going to face any SFA action and that just shows the lack of backbone from the national association.
But then again, it’s Rangers. The fear of that club from the Hampden beaks does seem to run deep.
