Main stand turnstiles at Celtic Park

The photo Hearts displayed on Tynecastle’s big screen ignored by the media has left Celtic fans disgusted

Celtic fans are continually told that sectarianism always has been and always will be a West of Scotland problem.

We all know that to be a lie and that it’s a Celtic comfort blanket the Scottish media use to console themselves with whenever the topic raises its ugly head.

Because heaven forbid that the country would need to tackle the problem when it’s just two football teams who cause all the trouble, right?

Born Celtic has proven on numerous occasions that sectarianism is alive and well not just at Rangers but also at other clubs in the SPFL.

Hearts supporters displayed a sectarian banner in the Edinburgh Derby as Police Scotland and the Scottish media stood by and did nothing.

And now, the Tynecastle club is at the centre of more controversy after a photo was displayed on the big screen and it has left Celtic fans absolutely raging.

Hearts display photo of convicted loyalist murderer vs Celtic

Clearly an attempt to try and wind up the visiting Celtic support, this message was displayed on the big screen at Hearts last night.

He was also arrested and charged with the attempted murder of Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness in 2006 and jailed for a further 16 years before being released in 2021.

The picture is, of course, of Michael Stone, who was a British militant convicted of four counts of murder as part of the UDA at an IRA funeral in 1988 but was released in 2001 as part of the Good Friday agreement.

And the poster is correct, if Celtic displayed a photo of known IRA fighters at Celtic Park, the media would have a field day.

But, as usual, the media are silent which is strange as outlets like the BBC waste no time holding Celtic fans to account if there is any hint of wrongdoing for as something as simple as foul language being caught by their pitchside microphones.

The double standards is amazing but really, no surprise, as the Scottish media contribute to Scotland’s sectarian problem by not calling out every club’s wrongdoings.
