Celtic supporters will enjoy Rangers fans revert to type after Europa League humiliation

I’m not going to lie. Watching Rangers get humiliated at Ibrox in the Europa League after their fans jumped on Celtic this week was just brilliant.

Celtic’s 7-1 defeat away to Borussia Dortmund was a tough result to take. Not one fan will deny that but when you know you have a game against one of the top-tier sides in France coming up you would think the Rangers fans would hold their tongues.

Not so. Just like when they sing the Billy Boys, those fans can’t help themselves by opening their mouths and not thinking about the consequences, those consequences have come back to haunt them big time after their 4-1 humiliation at Ibrox at the hands of Lyon last night.

And what makes this defeat better? It was the fact it was in Europe’s second-tier competition and that as soon as their club went behind, the Rangers fans reverted to type and abused the one player who tried his best for that lost cause of a club.

Rangers fan abuse of Connor Barron will not surprise the Celtic supporters one bit

Down 2-1 with more than 70 minutes to play, the Rangers fans dished out all levels of abuse to a 22-year-old player they have been heralding as one of their best players this season.

Very harsh considering he is the only one who looks like a decent player and has been putting more effort in than the rest of that rancid squad.

Well, he is doing more than you mate. At least he is good enough (not that that’s hard) to pull on a blue jersey.

It seems one mistake is all it takes to get the Rangers fans to turn.

That last guy was so raging he forgot to spell-check the abuse he sent to his own player.

It never fails to, well, disappoint me how quickly they turn on Captain Disappointment.

And demanding to sub their best player off after just 19 minutes is more ridiculous than the mistake Barron made to put Lyon in the lead.

You’ve got to laugh at this fanbase who put ‘loyal’ into every effing supporter’s club name that is created. They can’t even be loyal to their own players in the biggest game of their season.

A 4-1 defeat at Ibrox wasn’t far off being the humiliation that Liverpool dealt out to them in the Champions League not too long ago.

Just imagine the meltdown when Ange Postecoglou‘s team rock up to Ibrox and teach them a footballing lesson.
