The Ibrox story takes a new turn tonight as Rangers’ mess starts to impact the rest of Scottish football.
Born Celtic has been all over this story ever since the rumours on Follow Follow suggested that there were issues with the Copland Road upgrades.
Since then we have had rumours about asbestos and subsidence and even pictures from inside Ibrox that cast huge doubt on when the stadium will actually be ready.
However, the SFA doffed their cap to a begging Rangers and offered them the use of Hampden. This is ironic considering the Ibrox club has done nothing but gun for them over the last two seasons.
And as it stands, the first innocent bystanders have fallen victim to this deal between Rangers and the SFA and they are not happy at all.
Livingston had no ‘input’ on Hampden decision
Livingston was due to play Queen’s Park on Saturday the 10th of August in the second week of the Scottish Premiership fixtures.
That has now been moved to the previous Friday night of the 9th with a 7:45pm kick-off and David Martindale’s club let both of them have it with both barrels.
Livingston statement read, “We can confirm that our William Hill Championship clash with Queen’s Park, originally scheduled for Saturday 10th August, has been moved to Friday 9th August with a 7.45pm kick-off instead.
“As originally planned, the game will still be played at the City Stadium (Lesser Hampden).
“We’re disappointed that our own schedule has been impacted by matters entirely unrelated to our own football club. Whilst we have every sympathy that unexpected issues can occur, we don’t believe our game should be the one inconvenienced to remedy that.
“We didn’t have any input into the discussions regarding this, we were only informed of the change when the final decision had already been made.
“Again, whilst understanding the difficulty in rescheduling due to a busier than ever fixture card this season, it’s neither the fault of ourselves nor Queen’s Park which has led to the requirement for change, so we don’t believe, as a club, that it should have had an impact on our fixture list.
“With that said, it’s now done and we’ll plan for the game on the new date as required, amending our own training schedule to suit, and look forward to visiting the City Stadium next month.”
I’m going to hazard a guess that this won’t be the only fixture that will be impacted by the Ibrox debacle as the story continues to unfold.
With Rangers having no date set for a return to Govan, the hilarity for the Celtic fans is sure to continue beyond October.
