The Ibrox stadium debacle is something that has interested the Celtic fans for over a week now.
This site first shared the concerns the Rangers fans were hearing about the project to improve the Copeland Stand last weekend.
Those rumours were confirmed by Rangers after they announced the delay of the completion of the project this week.
This site, again, did another piece of digging and found that the Building Warrant for the project wasn’t even approved by Glasgow City Council prior to works being started.
A claim that was shouted down by the Ibrox support on social media. It turned out to be true.
And now, other rumours surrounding the state of the stadium have been shared by former Everton Chief Executive, Keith Wyness.
Celtic fan rumours about Ibrox appear to be true
Wyness has been involved in football at the highest level. But instead of letting me explain what’s going on, have a read of Wyness says he’s heard about the Ibrox project.
Wyness said [Football Insider podcast], “Well, I think the debacle is the right word. I mean, the stories coming out, it does appear to be a lot more than just actual delay in supplies.
“I mean, I’ve been involved in a number of stadium projects. I was also on the board for the building of the Hydro in Glasgow, which is the big concert venue. I was on the board there for seven years for this sort of problem to have happened, I think, is disgraceful from the board’s point of view.
“They should have been aware of this. They should have had a risk register and they should have either had the right consultants around to let them know these problems because there was always going to be a risk in terms of overseas supplies coming in. That’s well known.
“And in all these sorts of projects, you take that into account and that goes in your risk register and you make sure it happens.
“What I think is particularly rich in this situation was Rangers complaining about Dundee and their ground being unavailable to be played on because it hadn’t drained properly.
“And so Rangers made a very big noise about that in terms of a club not making its ground playable. Well here we are now and Rangers are the ones who say that now they may not have their ground playable.
“I’m hearing a lot of rumours that it goes way beyond that. It’s issues with subsidence. All sorts of things that I’m hearing rumours on. Unsubstantiated, but nevertheless, it’s it’s certainly worrying.
“There could be a lot of issues around that ground. And I’ve even heard rumours that they’re looking at potential new sites to build a new stadium. So it could go further than just a delay in supplies. But this goes right to the top in terms of this, because we’ve now got a very serious issue.
“We’re hearing asbestos, we’re hearing all sorts of rumours and all sorts of different things. So it’s a big issue.
“We have to see what comes out of it but somebody has got to have known about this for a while. And it’s a big one and I wouldn’t like to be sitting there trying to solve this one for Rangers, that’s for sure.”
This looks like a mess up of the highest order. Celtic fans have been talking about subsidence and asbestos for days but were palmed off as conspiracy theorists. Or obsessed.
Now I asked this question when I revealed the Building Warrant story, where are the Scottish media in all of this? Why the silence?
Just like when Rangers died, their silence is complicit in what is going on in Govan and I am sure it is all set to unravel even further.
