Arsenal defender, Kieran Tierney, talking about Celtic

How close Celtic were to pulling off a coup to sign Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney

With very little happening for the Celtic fans in the transfer window, I am pretty sure that the club are going to announce something any day now.

Any day, right? With the amount of players Celtic have been linked to, you would have to imagine that there are deals way down the line and close to completion.

One such deal was that for Arsenal defender, Kieran Tierney.

Having left the club in 2019, Tierney’s heart still remained in Paradise. And links this summer seemed to suggest that a Parkhead move could be on for the former Celtic defender.

Celtic, Kieran Tierney and Bournemouth

According to Paul John Dykes‘ information, there was a deal in place and it also seemed that Tierney had a decision to make just before he obtained that gut-wrenching injury at Euro 2024 against Switzerland.

Dykes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “Kieran Tierney, the injury, apparently it’s a four or five month lay off.

“He was someone who was on the radar and it was between Celtic and Bournemouth, but that’s obviously off the table now.

“So even if those two deals (Scott McKenna) were something that we were working on for either of them unless McKenna brings his wage demands down, are not gonna happen.”

Tierney is the kind of player Celtic are crying out for. Yes, I understand that his injury problems may have been a concern but surely getting him in and rotating Tierney and Greg Taylor would have been a great option for Brendan Rodgers.

Having a player of Tierney’s calibre available for the Champions League would have been excellent but now it seems that deal could be gone forever now.

However, the Arsenal defender’s deal expires next summer so who knows what could happen in just six months time if he becomes available for free.
