Celtic defender, Liam Scales, won his fifth cap for the Republic of Ireland last in a 3-0 defeat to Portugal.
As the Portuguese continues their preparations to defend their Euros crown, Liam Scales’ Ireland were up next to give Cristiano Ronaldo’s team a run out.
And what a run out it was. Under the cosh for much of the 90 minutes, John O’Shea’s side lowered holding out at a respectable 1-0 until a ten-minute double salvo from the Portuguese superstar hammered home their authority.
Liam Scales left for dead by Cristiano Ronaldo
Now the headline says that the Celtic fans won’t blame Scales for a Ronaldo piece of magic and when they see these three angles of one of his goals, they will understand why.
Here is the first angle which has almost 2.5m views:
I think the caption says it all in that one. Here is the second:
Those quick feet have bamboozled even the best defenders in the world.
And last, but not least, here is the third angle of Ronaldo’s superb finish:
Now many people will say that Scales should have shown him to the outside and not let him cut in, but come on, it’s Ronaldo in Portugal not Rabbi Matondo in Ibrox.
This guy has turned more defenders inside out than Jordan has her own knickers. No one can stop him when he’s in that kind of form.
Not doubt there will be fans out there who said Scales should have done better, but not me.
I say Ronaldo was just unstoppable and sometimes you just have to admit that it wasn’t the Celtic defender’s fault.
