‘The supporters seemed to be against him afterwards’ – The Celtic game that left Fabio Silva’s dad raging at the Sevco fans

Fabio Silva will certainly not be missed by the Celtic fans now that he’s returned to Wolves from his loan spell at Rangers.

Or will they? Look, I know he’s a diver but his antics gave us hours of comedic value as the Portuguese winger seemed to drop to the floor at the tip of a hat.

Granted, one of his particular dives cost Celtic two points at Ibrox, but Silva drained the Ibrox club of thousands of pounds per week and never delivered on the pitch.

And that is something we should all be thankful for. That and the fact that not being able to stay on his feet even turned the Rangers supporters against him.

Anyway, Silva fired back at the Ibrox support this week and this time, his old man was in the papers this morning cracking off about how he chose Rangers over Celtic.

But it’s not that that interested me in this one. It was what the Rangers fans said to Fabio Silva‘s dad at Hampden that I find particularly hilarious.

The message the Rangers fans delivered at Celtic Hampden final

Now, this is pleasing. Because you would think that the Rangers fans would do anything to get a win over Celtic. Especially as we humped them on four out of five occasions last season.

But no, and Silva’s dad shared what they said to him at Hampden before the Scottish Cup final kicked off, (Daily Record), “Fabio loved the club and the fans.

“He just doesn’t understand that after one game, everyone changed and went against the boy. It was a good time for him at Rangers. All the staff there helped him.

“But when I was at the cup final recently, people found out I was his father and said to me, ‘Tell him not to dive.’

“I know that’s just emotion and football but I don’t understand it.

“I don’t understand why old players from Rangers – and even some of the fans – criticised him after the Celtic game. It was a huge match but Rangers did nothing before Fabio won the penalty.

“He put them into the game yet afterwards everyone was against him. I don’t understand that.

“Whenever Fabio had the ball he always went at his opponent one v one and he provoked situations. He created another goal for the team and it was offside.

“But the supporters seemed to be against him afterwards.”

What Silva’s dad needs to understand is that no one in Scotland likes a diver. No one. And when that particular diver rolls about as if his leg had been brutally removed and then gets up looking a couple of minutes later whilst his team struggle to beat Celtic, it’s little wonder he got abuse from his own support.

Now I’m not going down the ‘He brought it on himself’ route. I’ll leave that to the Ibrox support. But hopefully, he has learned a valuable lesson from his time in Scotland.

And that lesson is? Not one Celtic fan cares that you chose to sign for Rangers. In fact, we are delighted and we haste ye back!
