“What is your problem?”, “Tom still getting emails from Rangers” – Celtic fans take Tom English to task after bizarre Scottish Cup criticism

Celtic Park

Ok, I know this is a little bit late on in the week after Celtic’s 5-0 win over Buckie Thistle, but it still needs talked about.

The first game back for Brendan Rodgers’ side after the winter break was the Scottish Cup tie against the 5th tier side.

The Celtic boss paid the tie the respect it deserved and fielded a relatively full strength side at Celtic Park to ensure there were no hiccups and the Hoops progressed to the next round of the tournament.

But it seems that wasn’t enough for BBC pundit, Tom English. In fact, the journalist made his feelings clear on the team selection with a bizarre social media post as soon as the line up was announced:

Now the reason why this is bizarre (and it was pointed out by the Celtic fans further down) is that Rangers played prior to Celtic in the same competition and how many young Scottish players did they play?

For clarity, it was the exact same amount as the number of tweets English sent criticising them for their team selection. Zero.

None. Nada. Zilch. So why the criticism of Celtic then? Surely a reporters job is to remain balanced and impartial and report and comment on all teams fairly? Not, it seems, when it comes to Celtic apparently.

And these Celtic fans (and hundreds more) highlighted that to the reporter.

Celtic fans hit back at Tom English’s criticism

And there were many more tweets just like that. It’s little wonder not many Celtic fans take this reporter seriously when it comes to our club.

If criticism is to be levied out for something like not playing enough Scottish youngsters then it must be dished out to all clubs evenly.

But, as we all know, that just doesn’t happen. I look forward to Tom’s next social media post the next time this issue crops up with the Ibrox side.

I won’t hold my breath.
