“Illogical” – The Celtic board are told exactly why they need to invest after last night’s Champions League win

The Celtic board have been sent many messages by Brendan Rodgers over recent weeks about the need to invest in quality players for the squad.

The Celtic manager has been unequivocal in his opinion after a heavy defeat to Atletico Madrid and narrow losses to Lazio and, before last night, Feyenoord.

And now, it has been spelled out in no uncertain terms and in a language the Celtic board understands, exactly why they should back Rodgers.

Taking to social media channel X, ACSOM contributor John Hughes posted the incredible amount of money that Celtic secured last night compared to the pittance of price money they get from the domestic game.

And the difference is stark.

Hughes said, “Another reason why the board’s non-committal attitude to Europe is illogical.

“That win earned us €2.8m. That’s £2,412,845 currently.

“The Viaplay Cup Winners=£380k.

“The League=£3.35m.

“Scottish Cup=£602k.

“The Treble = £4,332,000.

“ONE win in CL is 55.69% of total Scottish prize money.”

Brendan Rodgers demands more from the Celtic board after win over Feyenoord

Speaking post-match, the Celtic manager reiterated his message to the Parkhead board after he watched his depleted side overcome the Eredivisie champions.

Rodgers said [Celtic TV], “We could have very easily been on nine points from our home games. So I think over the course of the competition we’ve shown potential but the team needs support.

“It needs to be stronger at this level. You need to add quality and if we’re going to progress, which I want us to do, then hopefully we can do that over the coming windows.

“But we’ve definitely shown potential that what we can do in lots of moments in games so if we can add to the group then I’m confident that we can then make these next steps.”

So the message is clear to Lawwell & Co, get the money out because if you invest it wisely then the rewards on and off the park can be huge.
