“Where do I start?” – John Hartson slaughters VAR shambles

Celtic Park

I love big John. Never afraid to call out the b*llsh*t in the Scottish, the big Welshman let it rip over the weekends VAR shambles.

In what should have been a momentous occasion for the Scottish game, the new technology hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

And when Hartson was asked his opinion on how he thought VAR went over the weekend on Go Radio, the former Celtic hitman went at it both barrels, “Oh, where do I start? Where do I start? I think that VAR, the Scottish Premiership have known this is coming to to the Scottish game for a year.

“They’ve been training up the guys to deal with the VAR decisions. There was too many indecisive moments.

There was too many things that went wrong for me up at Tynecastle. The referee got one or two right but he also got, in my opinion, three wrong.

So it’s not good enough at this level. We knew this was coming. It’s not been a week or a month. It’s been one year to get ready for VAR.

And, over the weekend, it just wasn’t good enough.

It’s not a great first impression for VAR in Scotland is it? In what easily the most hogh profile match of the weekend, all the officials had to do was get it right.

Just watch a monitor, look at the incidents and make the correct call.

And even with the benefit of slow motion and a rewind button, they still couldn’t do it.

It’s little wonder Celtic fans have so little faith in the new system after what we witnessed this weekend and it leaves me looking towards the next Glasgow Derby, at Ibrox, with dread.
