“Celtic need to take this further” – Brilliant fan caller as VAR furore rumbles on

Lisbon Lions Stand, Celtic Park

And we just keep rumbling on.

As the VAR phenomenon that was the weekend still reverberates around Scottish football, it seems that confidence in the new technology is already low amongst the Celtic support after the shambles at Tynecastle.

And a brilliant Celtic fan called The Go Radio Football Show to tell us all exactly how Celtic should deal with a specific Scottish official responsible for the VAR fiasco, “For the neutral, it’s probably game of the season definitely. My blood pressure’s just got back to get back to normal to be honest after it.

My main point tonight is I think Celtic need to take this further in terms of Steven McLean because obviously he was running VAR at the weekend.

Obviously he was the referee in the Hibs game last week. Some of the decisions he made were laughable.

He didn’t probably make any outrageously bad decisions in terms of there’s no flashpoints like the was there, but in my opinion it’s time Celtic went to the SPFL and say we do not want Steven McLean refereeing any of our games anymore.

Because I’m not just talking about games this season or last season.

If you look back, he was actually the fifth official when we trialled the officials on the bye line.

He was actually the official in the Scottish Cup semi-final for the Josh Meeking’s handball that robbed Ronny Deila of a potential treble.

And that was one of the most blatant handballs you will ever see and how he has not given the James Forrest handball is absolutely beyond me.”

I’m not so sure that Celtic will do that. That is the go-to for the club across the city and I wouldn’t want to give that fan base any more reason for them having a go at us for being paranoid.

But it does raise a perfectly legitimate question. Will the club take action to address the shocking officiating?

Maybe there is things going on in the background we don’t know about. But I seriously doubt it.
