Big Ange. He is God-like in the eye’s of most Celtic fans.
So much so, that he clearly is the most powerful man at the club at the moment.
Why do I say that?
What he has achieved in less than a year is nothing short of miraculous.
A league title. A cup. The rift between the fans and the board apparently healed. He has the backing of every Celtic supporter. That is why he is the most powerful man at the club.
Can you imagine if he decided to walk if he wasn’t backed, or if something behind the scenes wasn’t quite right?
There would be anarchy! Ok, maybe that’s a bit over dramatic but let’s face it, the Celtic supporters would be livid.
Which is why Chris Suttons calls for the manager to be signed up longer term made some fans sit up and take notice.
But when he tweeted out his column over the weekend, there was a strange calmness to the replies by the Celtic fans:
And you know why? Because the fans trust Ange.
They take him at his word. That is the kind of bond he has with the fans. I’ve not seen anything like it since the Martin O’Neill days. And before him? Tommy Burns.
Not only does he talk the talk, he walks it. When Ange says he is happy, you best believe him because what the Celtic gaffer has shown this season is his ability to smell bullsh*t from the media and call it out with integrity.
Because that’s the kind of man he is.
And that is why these Celtic fans are relatively at ease with his contract situation:
The man said he’s not a**ed about a long term contract. He’s happy to be here doing his job in the moment. He’ll leave one day we just need to enjoy him while we have him.

He said he’s happy here. I believe him👍🏼🍀

None of us should be naive enough to think that Ange will be will us long term. He’ll eventually want to test himself in a better league if he’s proving to do well at Celtic, and the subsequent opportunities arise. A long term contract is all about decent compensation.

Stop panicking Chris, it’s June

Ange doesn’t want or need a long term contract. Celtic are in danger of putting all their eggs in one basket. Much more important to build a resilient management structure which doesn’t collapse with the loss of one man. See the sudden exit of Rodgers.

The last comment is probably the most pertinent one. Structure. That is what Celtic should be looking to build.
But I’m not going to lie, a five year contract for the manager would be brilliant as well.
Just for my own piece of mind……………..
