It seems that Motherwell being denied a blatant penalty against Rangers is a laughing matter amongst the Scottish journalists these days.
Rangers escape yet another penalty decision as a game hangs in the balance as another pattern of assistance stops the Ibrox club from dropping more points this season.
Motherwell should have had a penalty at Ibrox after Fernandez tripped Fadinger with just minutes left on the clock.
But as Jens Berthel Askou raged about a decision that could have consequences for his club come the end of the season, the assembled journalists inside Rangers appeared to think that this was all one big laugh.
How do we know this? Because one of them, Scott McDermott, shared a story where one of the hacks made fun of Askou behind his back inside the Rangers press room.
Motherwell boss clearly upset over Rangers ‘penalty’
McDermott is a Rangers fan and appeared to take great glee as he regaled a wee story inside the Ibrox press room where one of his colleagues openly mocked the Motherwell boss’ distress about the penalty call.
McDermott said on Hotline Live, “You’re trusting the officials and saying, well, if they’ve looked at it and they’ve dismissed it so quickly, then it’s clearly not a penalty.
“So, I mean, mean, it barely gets a mention. And he seemed adamant. And then after the game, obviously, you’re not thinking much of it.
“And then the Motherwell manager comes in and says, he’s going to take that decision. His grave.”
All three journalists start laughing at the Motherwell boss. But it doesn’t stop there.
Plus what the hell is McDermott talking about? Trust the officials? Yeah, only when the decision goes the Ibrox club’s way, right?
Journlaist mocked Motherwell boss behind his back in Rangers press room
As the press conference wrapped up and Askou left the room, McDermott shares this wee nugget of information.
McDermott continued, “As one of the reporters in the press room said, I was killing myself laughing, and I’ll not say who it is. The Motherwell manager walked out and the guy said, ‘God, he’s taking that decision to his grave’. He says, ‘I’ve not even put it in my match report.”
More jovial laughing at Motherwell’s expense from Daniel Caw, McDermott and Keith Jackson. Completely unprofessional but not unexpected.
And what makes it worse is that McDermott is even hinting that it might have been a penalty as he went on, “So it was obviously a big decision. I’ve watched it a million times. I don’t know what you think.
“I think Fernandez gets a slight touch on the ball. And I have to say, he’s obviously taking a gamble, dangling the leg. But I think Fadinger goes down too easy.
“I think he’s looking for contact. He might even initiate it himself. Of course, there is a bit of contact clearly, but I think that’s been the ref’s view.
“I think the way he’s gone down, Fadinger probably hasn’t helped himself.”
The hall goes past the Rangers defender and if there’s not contact then Fadinger is clean through on goal.
So not only is it a penalty, a potential goal scoring opportunity was also denied.
But hey, it all worked out for Rangers so it’s all fun and games, right?
