Celtic’s transfer business comes under the spotlight again as one of the club’s signings comes under scrutiny.
Brendan Rodgers signed 11 players for Celtic this summer and at least half are yet to see any first team action.
From regular starters like Benjamin Nygren to the lesser-spotted Hayato Inamura, Celtic’s transfer policy has been questionable this year.
And one particular signing has baffled former Celtic defender Kelvin Wilson.
Signing Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Man City baffles ex-Celtic defender Wilson
Jahmai Simpson-Pusey arrived at Celtic with a decent pedigree as a young talented defender from Man City.
And Wilson says the transfer between both clubs is a ‘strange one’.
In an interview with Record Sport, via Gambling.com, he said: “It’s strange how he’s not played yet. It’s a very strange one. Yeah, you put out your best team, but I can assure you there’s probably been opportunities in the cup or whatever to put him on.
“Results as well, when you are 3-0 up, can you put him on while you’re dominating?
“So it’s a strange one. Whether he’s not match fit, had little niggles, I don’t know.
“But it’s definitely a strange one to bring a player on loan and not feature at all.”
What Brendan Rodgers said after signing Simpson-Pusey
Rodgers appeared delighted to have signed the young defender from Manchester City.
Speaking on Celtic FC back in August, the Hoops gaffer said, “I am really pleased we have been able to bring Jahmai to Celtic, and I believe he will be an important, quality addition to our squad.
“Jahmai is a quick, dominant centre half. He is a strong defender but can also move the ball forward very well as we progress through the pitch.
“I know Jahmai is excited about this move and bringing him to the club creates even more competition which will only benefit us.
“I am sure he will settle in well with the squad as we get ready for the matches we have coming up at home and abroad.”
Over two months later and Simpson-Pusey is nowhere to be seen.
I wonder if it’s because he is one of those pesky ‘club signings’ the Celtic manager was talking about?
