‘Time is up’ – Player told he must leave Celtic ‘for the sake of his career’

Celtic still have a number of players on the books that they need to get out of the club this summer.

Luis Palma and Hyunjun Yang have been tipped to make Celtic £6m this summer as the wingers career’s at the club look over.

Brendan Rodgers has already got a number of players off the books after Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki left Celtic this summer.

And after watching Celtic’s pre-season win over Cork City last week, ACSOM’s Colin Watt has told one player he must leave the club ‘for the sake of his career’.

Stephen Welsh told Dane Murray is ‘clearly ahead’ of him at Celtic

Watt told A Celtic State of Mind, “As one player looked to have impressed in pre-season, one certainly looked as if his future is not at the club and that’s Stephen Welsh. A bit of a calamity in defence for the Cork equalising goal.

“A bit of a mix-up between him and Ross Doohan. There’s other times as well that he just looked as if he was off the pace. Although he was the captain in the second half, the fact that you’re coming on as part of the B team, Dane Murray is clearly ahead of you.

“I think obviously picked up the injury, but his time is up. I think he won’t be here when the window closes at the end of August.

“I mean, for his sake, I hope he’s not because I hope he goes somewhere and plays football and is successful because it’s clear that’s not going to be at Celtic. For the sake of his career, he needs to go somewhere and I really hope that you’ll get that move.”

The big stat that proves Stephen Welsh’s Celtic career is over

Welsh has been at Celtic since his youth days and has had spells out on loan at Greenock Morton and KV Mechelen.

After his latest injury this summer, the Celtic defender is set to be out for yet another long spell as he looks to remedy his shoulder problem.

Since making his first team debut in 2020, Welsh has made a further 68 appearances in the green and white Hoops. [Transfermarkt]

In that time, he has failed to stake a claim in Celtic’s first-team and it’s time the Parkhead club said goodbye to the defender.
