The naming of the next Rangers manager is getting close as Celtic fans find out who will face Brendan Rodgers in the dugout.
Rodgers has seen off six Rangers managers over two spells as the Celtic manager as he sweeps Scottish football aside.
After Philippe Clement was sacked, Celtic fans enjoyed Barry Ferguson’s spell in the Ibrox hotseat as he oversaw part of a winless home run that embarrassed Rangers.
However, now Ferguson was dropped to the Rangers scrapheap, it appears that Fabrizio Romano has named the next manager Rodgers will face as Celtic look to defend their Scottish Premiership title.
Russell Martin ‘closing in’ on facing Celtic as the next Rangers manager
Davide Ancelotti was heavily tipped to become the next Rangers boss but it appears that the 49ers Enterprises have picked the new man to go up against Celtic next season.
Romano said on X, “Rangers are closing in on the appointment of Russell Martin as new head coach.
“Former Southampton manager has already accepted the project, ready for new chapter.”

When an announcement is likely to be made, no one yet knows but it’s fair to say that this update has not impressed many people.
Russell Martin’s dismal managerial record as Rangers try to close Celtic gap
Martin has managed Southampton, Swansea and MK Dons over the last seven years and his record at each club does not make impressive reading.
- Southampton: 73 games, 34 wins, 13 draws, 36 losses. average of 1.58 points per game
- Swansea: 99 games, 36 wins, 26 draws, 37 losses, average 1.35 points per game
- MK Dons: 80 games, 31 wins, 17 draws, 32 losses, average 1.38 points per game
- Trophyless
It’s hardly a record that screams excitement and something for Celtic to be worried about and it’s certainly been met with a strong response on social media.
