David Tanner isn’t generally known for his pro-Celtic comments whenever he talks about our club.
In general, he tries to sound impartial but in reality Tanner’s anti-Celtic bitterness tends to seep out one way or another whenever he talks about the Parkhead club or Rangers.
However, on this occassion he was generally being positive about Celtic and the Scottish Cup final but it appears that his positivity was too much after he apologised live on air on talkSPORT after his Hampden final prediction was all wrong.
David Tanner apologises for his Celtic Scottish Cup prediction vs Aberdeen
It appears that Tanner got a wee bit carried away with himself as he gave his prediction on who would win the Scottish Cup at the weekend, so much so he expressed regret at his keenness to appear pro-Celtic.
Tanner said on talkSPORT, “First of all, can I issue an apology on behalf of everyone at talkSPORT given that I said on the Sports Breakfast at the weekend, I said to you, put the mortgage on Celtic, this is the biggest or the most one sided final we’ve seen in 100 years, given that there’s 19 goals between them.
“Celtic have scored 19 goals against Aberdeen this season, there was 39 points between them in the league table. And yet Aberdeen, after a rotten season, managed to turn it around.
“Jimmy Thelin the coach changed from his usual permission to a back five. Completely stifled Celtic, they looked very flat in the day and managed to pull off the unthinkable.”
And fair play to Aberdeen, they did pull off the a great result. Many Celtic fans would have been confident that they would have been witnessing another treble, especially after watching the Hoops batter The Dons in their last two league fixtures.
But, with any cup competition, you can’t get too confident as anything can happen on the day. Which is why Tanner now looks a bit daft after he went in two-footed about Celtic winning the cup that he completely wrote off the Pittodrie club.
Celtic fans were confident of a win, but unlike Tanner, they were not daft enough to think it was a forgone conclusion.
