Celtic hero Artur Boruc was loved by the fans and Gordon Strachan.
The then Celtic manager brought Boruc to the club and the Polish goalkeeper was responsible for giving Hoops fans some incredible memories at Celtic Park over his five years at the club.
The Polish stopper was nicknamed the ‘Holy Goalie’ after his antics at Ibrox where he blessed himself after beating Rangers went down a storm by the Celtic supporters.
However, there was an iconic moment against Rangers where Boruc wore a ‘God bless the Pope’ t-shirt after a win a Ibrox that raked in the headlines and caused a superb meltdown over Ibrox way.
And now, Gordon Strachan has broken his silence on what he said at the time and Celtic fans will love his answer.
Gordon Strachan’s superb recollection of Artur Boruc’s famous Celtic Pope t-shirt
Strachan managed Boruc for five seasons, but here, the former Celtic boss recalls that superb moment in the Polish goalkeeper’s time at Parkhead.
Strachan told SunSport, “The time we beat Rangers at Ibrox and you think, ‘This is it, brilliant, I want to get at them’. So when I get to the press conference we had just won to go nine points clear.
“Someone said right away, ‘Artur Boruc’, I said, ‘What about Artur Boruc’, he said, ‘His t-shirt’, I said, ‘What about his t-shirt? What has he done?’ and he said, ‘He’s come out with a t-shirt about the Pope’.
“And I said, ‘Aw for Christ’s sake. It could have been worse. It could have been Myra Hindley.”
What Artur Boruc really thought about his time at Celtic as he hints to Pope t-shirt moment
Boruc remains one of the best goalkeepers ever to wear the Celtic jersey and tow years ago, the Parkhead club travelled to Warsaw to take part in his testimonial game just before he retired.
When asked to reflect on his time at Parkhead, Boruc told Celtic TV, “It was an absolutely great time for me, personally. There was great European nights, trophies and domestically games against the opponents in Glasgow.
“It was just absolutely fantastic for me.”
Speaking about his best moments at Celtic, Boruc continued, “If we are talking about football, there was a couple of games I can remember but most of the time it was things apart from football that made me a little bit more happy.”
Boruc was probably one of the biggest characters I can remember pulling on the Celtic jersey in recent times.
And with comments like these, it’s little wonder he was loved by the entire Celtic support.
