Celtic’s domination of Scottish football has broken Rangers and their fans.
As Celtic close in on their 13th title in 14 years, Rangers are once again searching for a manager to help try and end the Parkhead club’s dominance.
The last time the Ibrox club won a title, Steven Gerrard was manager and since he walked away from Rangers Celtic has seen of at least five managers from the new club.
With the pain of Celtic’s treble weighing heavily on Rangers fans, for some strange reason they wa Gerrard back.
In fact, it’s fair to say they are desperate to see him back as they hang their hops on him being the man to put Celtic to the sword despite Gerrard being sacked from his last two clubs and winning nothing despite spending millions of land millions of pounds.
So if Gerrard was re-hired at Ibrox, how would Celtic feel? Journalist and pundit Michael Grant reckons he knows.
Celtic would be ‘quite happy’ to see Steven Gerrard back at Rangers
Grant told PLZ Soccer, “I can understand the noise about Steven Gerrard, just because he’s such a prominent figure in the recent past.
“I think if they appointed Steven Gerrard, Celtic would be quite happy about that. And that would be quite revealing.
“I think Celtic would say, right, over the piece we dealt with this guy before, apart from one season, which was, as you say, freakishly bad from their perspective, there’s COVID, all the rest of it. But I mean, Gerrard was on the brink of leaving.
“That night at Tynecastle they got knocked out of the cup. They got beat at home by Hamilton. You know, they recovered.
“He and the club recovered brilliantly from the COVID break, came back strong, unbeaten season, all the rest of it. But, you know, he wasn’t up against a Brendan Rodgers or even an Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic.
“I shouldn’t say even, because Ange Postecoglou Celtic was formidable.”
Steven Gerard’s record vs Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as Rangers manager
Every Celtic fan knows the main reason Gerrard won the time in Scotland was because of COVID.
But agains Brendan Rodgers, how does his record stack up?
In four games, Rodgers won two, drew one and lost just once. (Transfermarkt)
In those games, Rodgers still won two trebles as Rangers ended both seasons trophyless.
Yeah, Celtic and Rodgers would love to have Gerrard back at Rangers.
