The much talked about San Francisco 49ers takeover of Rangers is one that has interested the Celtic fans for quite some time now.
Not because it worries us in any specific way but mainly because the Rangers supporters are counting on this so badly, if the San Francisco 49ers ‘takeover’ of the Ibrox club goes wrong, the meltdown will be spectacular.
Whilst Rangers fans believe they are going to get millions to spend in the transfer market to challenge Celtic, the simple truth is that they will be lucky to get £10m if the ‘takeover’ happens.
However, whilst the Scottish press cream themselves at this news, a report from Leeds has shared a possible scenario where what the Championship club do in the second-tier could kaibosh the American consortium plans and crush the Rangers supporters’ dreams.
Leeds United failing to get promotion to the EPL could scupper 49ers Rangers deal
Leeds Live has reported that the consortium who are planning to buy Rangers are ‘worried’ that Leeds United’s dip in form could inadvertently cause the Rangers deal to fall through.
Why? Well, should Leeds fail to earn promotion to the EFL regulations forbid English club owners to have a controlling stake in two British clubs at the same time. The EPL have no such rule which means that should Leeds get promoted then the deal can go ahead.
Strangely, not one single Scottish media outlet has reported this. I wonder why?
Taking a quick look at the English Championship the Yorkshire club is top, but has been struggling of late.
- 1st place: Leeds on 80 points
- 2nd place: Sheffield United on 80 points
- 3rd place: Burnley on 78 points
- Playoff place dropout is 7th place where Bristol City sit on 57 points
Leeds have won only two out of their last four fixtures which has allowed Burnley to catch up on them and they could be placed in the lottery of the EPL play-offs should their form not pick up soon.
On behalf of all Celtic fans, ‘Up the Clarets!’.
