Arne Engels was hit by a coin in Celtic’s defeat to Rangers at Ibrox.
Celtic midfielder, Engels, was taking a corner inside Ibrox in the latter stages of the game when a Rangers fan struck him with a coin.
Police Scotland released an image of the Rangers fan and now that an arrest has been made this afternoon, the Scottish media have tied themselves in knots trying with a series of bizarre announcements on the arrest.
Rangers fan arrested for assault on Arne Engels but the Scottish media won’t say it
STV reported the story as ‘Man charged one month on from assault at Celtic v Rangers match‘ and completely avoided addressing the fact that it was a Rangers supporter.
The Herald headlined, “Man charged in connection with assault during Rangers vs Celtic clash” and hid the rest of the article behind a paywall.
The Glasgow Times was even better with this classic, “Man arrested following Glasgow’s Old Firm game“
Police Scotland’s statement on Rangers fan arrest for assaulting Celtic’s Arne Engels
The statement by Police Scotland wasn’t better to be honest after releasing the news on social media this afternoon.
Police Scotland said, “A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault at Ibrox Stadium during the Rangers and Celtic game on Thursday, 2 January 2025.
“He has been released on an undertaking to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

All they need to do now is arrest and charge the Rangers fans who spat sectarian hatred towards Engels as he lay on the ground with a cut on his head in the aftermath of the attack.
But then that would involve some real Police work now, wouldn’t it?
