Ally McCoist is not held in any esteem by the Celtic supporters as the former Rangers man’s ‘cheeky chappy’ act is routinely slapped down.
The talkSPORT pundit was flapping his gums after Rangers’ win over Celtic in a toxic Ibrox as Philippe Clement recorded his first win in seven attempts against Scotland’s most successful club.
But in true Ally McCoist style, the ex-Rangers man couldn’t hold his water as he made two claims after the Glasgow Derby game that now look incredibly foolish after today’s results in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic slap down Ally McCoist’s Rangers praise
McCoist said about Rangers after they beat Celtic, “Rangers have to continue on the trajectory they’re on at the moment.
“The form overall has been good, and as disappointing as their defeat in the League Cup final to Celtic last month was, I think most fans would agree that the performances are slowly getting there.”
“I also look at the game against Tottenham,” McCoist continued in his deluded Celtic comments, “In the Europa League, who are one of the top teams in England. The overall performance on that night was really impressive.
“Above everything else, all Rangers fans want to see is proof of progressive improvement, and then the results will come.”
Ally McCoist’s comments on Rangers’ ‘unbelievable’ Celtic result
“I think Philippe Clement will still be at the club by the end of the season,” said McCoist.
“The result yesterday against Celtic was unbelievable, but my main reasoning is I’m unsure if Rangers have the financial capability to be paying off people at the club.
“Sacking managers is a very expensive task, as we’ve seen in the Premier League.”
“Furthermore, the recruitment prior to Clement’s arrival was diabolical, but it’s a problem he must address – even though it wasn’t his doing.
“He’s inherited players that I don’t think he would’ve signed himself, so he deserves the chance to bring in his own players in the January transfer window, and then he can be judged when he’s built his side.”
How stupid does McCoist look now as he rushed into praising his old club considering their shocking away form this season?
Indeed, this isn’t the first time Celtic fans have called out ‘sleekit’ McCoist. The pundit’s true colours come out as his mask slips from time to time but the Hoops support are not fooled by his act.
And now, after Rangers dropped points again and Celtic battered St Mirren today, maybe in future McCoist will think before he engages his brain when it comes to making claims after one decent result by his old club.
