James McFadden on ‘massive’ Rangers injury update ahead of League Cup final vs Celtic

The Celtic vs Rangers League Cup final is a matter of days away and it seems that the Ibrox club have a big injury problem to deal with.

The Rangers fans embarrassed Scottish football off the park with a horrendous tifo prior to their Europa League match with Spurs toast night.

But after earning a creditable 1-1 draw with Ange Postecoglou’s team, it came at a price after lone of their first team players was subbed off due to an injury.

Rangers’ ‘massive’ injury sweat for League Cup final vs Celtic

John Souttar had to be removed from the game vs Spurs due to injury and James McFadden reckons Philippe Clement will be sweating over the Scotland defender’s fitness for the Celtic final.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live McFadden said: “The biggest concern here is it’s John Souttar that’s down for Rangers. He’s been probably their best player this season, most consistent.

“Before the game we were thinking massive game on Sunday, were there any players potentially that needed resting? I don’t think John Souttar would have been one but he’s certainly one you’d come into this game worried about and so it’s not great… the bigger picture, to be ready for Sunday’s massive game.

“John Souttar just passes the ball so I don’t know if he’s felt something slightly in his groin, his hip flexor. Maybe it is just precaution, but again, Leon Balogun was one without doubt for me that was rested tonight to keep him fresh for Sunday’s final, so it’s not ideal on both counts.

“Now Philippe Clement, you’ll be watching this game through your fingers with your defensive options at the minute.”

Rangers put a lot into that one point they earned against Spurs last night.

It’s likely it could cost them in the cup final on Sunday. Who knows.
