Yeah, the headline threw but it’s true. An Aberdeen fan did actually suggest as ex-Chelsea boss to take over Rangers to help them catch Celtic.
Quite why someone with links to the Pittodrie club would even want to talk about improving Rangers never mind help them to catch up with Celtic is beyond me.
The Ibrox club are sticking with Philippe Clement despite his horrendous record against Celtic.
In six attempts Rangers have failed to beat Celtic with the only positive result being their moral victory in the 3-3 draw at Ibrox with the Bhoys last season.
But now, sitting in third place in the league just two points behind The Dons, an Aberdeen fan left Chris Sutton flummoxed with a suggestion on who should take over at Ibrox.
Aberdeen fan reckons former Chelsea manager could help Rangers catch Celtic
When it was suggested that Graham Potter should take over the Ibrox hot seat, Sutton had to repeat himself to make sure he heard the Aberdeen fan correctly.
A guy called Ryan phoned Sutton’s BBC 606 show when this exchange took place:
Sutton: “So, you’d keep him for Thursday then, Ryan. So, say Spurs go and beat Rangers 8-0.
“Would you keep him beyond that?”
Ryan: “Well, I’m an Aberdeen fan so I hope so.”
Sutton: “So Ryan, if you want a replacement? Have you got a name?
Ryan: “I would say Graham Potter.”
Sutton: “You’d say Graham Potter, who, I mean, didn’t do a great job at Chelsea.
“You’d bring someone in who didn’t do a particularly good job at Chelsea.”
What a weird thing for a Dons fan to call into a radio show and suggest.
I mean I’m all for it. Bring Potter up. He’ll, even give him Harry Potter as his assistant because that’s the only way Rangers will be able to catch Celtic is if the Ibrox club magicked money from somewhere.
