Mark Guidi says Celtic have stolen two players for an ‘absolute bargain’ this summer

Celtic’s summer transfer business has been brilliant this season as Brendan Rodgers splashed the cash.

The Celtic boss spent the best part of £30m strengthening Celtic and, yes, whilst I understand the club brought in more money than it spent, they still gave Rodgers a healthy outlay to get the team ready for the Champions League.

With seven new players added to the squad, Rodgers is already seeing the likes of Kasper Schmeichel, Adam Idah and Arne Engels pay back their hefty transfer fees. Or in the case of Schmeichel, earn his crust.

But it is two other players that Mark Guidi reckons Celtic have stolen this summer as he lauds the club for making two bargain signings.

Paulo Bernardo and Luke McCowan are Celtic ‘bargains’

Guidi says Paulo Bernardo maybe wasn’t worth the £6m Benfica were looking for and he also reckons that Dundee should have asked for more for their former captain, Luke McCowan.

Guidi said (The Go Radio Football Show), “I think when Celtic eventually signed him it was a high threes, maybe four million pounds.

“Maybe the price was originally meant to be £6m and they’ve managed to haggle away and maybe Benfica have got a bigger sell-on clause if they ever sell them.

“However, yeah, I think probably at the end of last season, you thought £6m is that value for money? I wasn’t so sure.

“£4m, I thought, yeah, all day long, go get him for £4m. But at £6m, I wasn’t sure. Now, a bargain, I mean, Barry’s talking McCowan absolutely, an absolute bargain.

“I mean, probably if you’re Dundee, I think they should have held out for £2m, to be honest. They should have been getting £2m for McCowan. But Bernardo, yeah, he’s come on a tonne.

“And I think I’ve said before, the other thing about him, if he’s not starting the game, if he is on the bench, no huffs, no toys out the pram.

“He’s a team player, and when he’s given his chance to come on, what a contribution he makes.”

Both new signings have made a material impact at Celtic already scoring big goals and contributing to the unbeaten start to the new season.

The Celtic fans will be hoping that their form continues tonight as Celtic take on Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Because if Rodgers is looking to get any kind of result, every single Celtic player will need to be on top of their game in Germany.
