‘You let Scottish football down’ – Judge publicly humiliates Rangers fan for shocking Ibrox flag of ‘intolerance’

A Rangers fan has been publicly humiliated by a judge after he displayed a flag of hate at Ibrox during a Scottish Premiership match with Aberdeen.

The Ibrox supporter was charged for displaying a Nazi flag associated with the SS in World War II in the Broomloan Stand’s top tier after being reported to the Police Scotland, Rangers and the Scottish Government.

He handed himself in to the authorities last December and is now on trial at the Glasgow Sheriff Court.

The Procurator Fiscal Caitlin McAllister said (Evening Times), “The flag was blue in colour with a white skull and crossbones symbol in the middle.

“Above the symbol was ‘Rangers’ to the left and ‘Active’ to the right and ‘Unit’ underneath with the numbers ‘936’.

“McArthur (Rangers fan) remained with the flag looking towards where the Aberdeen fans were seated and occasionally gestured towards them.

“A witness viewed this and recognised the symbol as being associated with the third Panzer division during the Second World War.

“Images of the flag were shown to Doctor Rachel Chin who is a lecturer of war studies at the University of Glasgow.

“She provided a written document about the image which is associated with the SS and is an image of intolerance.”

The Ibrox supporter has previously served a community payback order in 2020 for a breach of the peace offence.

He has also been charged with coin throwing in May 2023 after striking a female Aberdeen supporter and was also one of the Rangers fans who invaded the Hampden pitch after Hibs beat them in the 2016 Scottish Cup final.

He was given a six-month curfew, put on supervision for a year and dealt a three-year football banning order for his part.

Sheriff Lindsay Wood stated that the time: “You let Scottish football down.”

His sentencing for his latest idiocy has been deferred til next month and he has been ordered not to attend any football games as part of his bail conditions.
