The goalkeeper who was lauded as the best in Scotland ahead of Celtic’s Joe Hart by the media last year has started the new season as he finished off the last one.
Jack Butland was the subject of some bizarre media hype last year when the they toured the Rangers keeper for a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 England squad.
Butland’s form for Rangers was deemed better than Hart’s despite the Celtic keeper having the season of his life after winning a another double at the club.
As for Butland, I think all the overblown hype about the former England ‘keeper can end now after these two absolute howlers in yesterdays friendly against Ajax.
Shockers weren’t they? Especially that second one. Now the new season hasn’t even started yet and it looks like Butland is already starting to prove Southgate right about his omission from the England squad.
And let’s be honest, the only people that genuinely thought he should have been taken to Germany was the deluded Rangers fans and a few crackpot pundits.
With talk of a £15m price tag for a keeper who is clearly past his sell by date, Butland has done well to knock at least £10m off that asking price in just two short games.
I hope he stays at Ibrox for the foreseeable future if only to watch the Rangers fans aim their bile at him for just one more year at least.
