WWE superstar, CM Punk, wearing Celtic gear.

Celtic supporter CM Punk has caused another Drew McIntyre WWE meltdown

The drama of Euro 2024 has only been surpassed by the WWE controversy between Celtic supporting CM Punk and Rangers fan Drew McIntyre.

Look, I know this is all scripted but see in terms of entertainment and the fact that a popular worldwide sport like the WWE has embraced Celtic, this has been great fun.

If we don’t know the backstory, WWE superstar CM Punk was involved in Drew McIntyre’s title fight with Damian Priest to become the world champion.

And as McIntyre had Priest pinned, CM Punk imitated being a referee to stop the count and Priest then successfully defended his title by finishing off the Rangers supporting WWE wrestler.

All very dramatic and exciting and it was all stoked up by CM Punk decking himself in Celtic gear and Celtic’s official social media channel thanking him for stopping McIntyre from winning.

CM Punk chants lead to McIntyre quitting WWE

The pain of losing to a Celtic supporter rankles hard with McIntyre as he has now quit the wrestling franchise for the second time as the defeat hits him hard.

And in meltdown after hearing the fans shouting for CM Punk, McIntyre said, “Screw this company, I quit.” before storming off.

Not really a fan of WWE, I quite enjoyed this story as it seems Celtic not only lives rent-free in the tiny minds of the Ibrox fans but also inside the heads of WWE wrestling stars as well.

McIntyre was inducted into the WWE Scottish Hall of Fame in a bizarre ceremony held at Ibrox last week. It must be a thing at that club to celebrate mediocrity as a sign of success.
