Celtic defender Kieran Tierney

‘From what I’m hearing’ – Award-winning Celtic podcaster on the ‘deal’ surrounding ‘desperate’ Arsenal and Kieran Tierney

The Kieran Tierney transfer rumour mill hit the headlines over the last few days for the Celtic fans after Arsenal revealed how much money it would take for clubs to buy the Scotland fullback this summer.

Tierney was clearly a huge favourite with the Celtic supporters having been one himself and coming through the ranks at the club.

When he left the club, the Celtic fans were hurt but understood the lure of joining Arsenal and the English Premier League.

But now he is out of favour at the club, it seems that £10m is all it will take for any club to get his signature this summer.

Celtic want a ‘loan to buy’ Kieran Tierney

This is a signing that would please the majority of the Celtic fans. The club can afford the fee but they would not be able to afford his salary of £110k per week. (Spotrac)

But according to Paul John Dykes of A Celtic State of Mind, Celtic are not looking buy back the Invincible Treble legend.

Dykes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “I mean, listen, people say don’t go back and it does sometimes work.

“We went back to Fraser Forster as a great example of it. It’s not only the wages but also the injury problems right now.

“Kevin’s been talking about Financial Fair Play, they could be wangling the wage bill because if Celtic take a percentage of his wages, which I believe are £100k per week.

“You’re not even taking half of that right. I know that it’s down in the clubs and I know that right at the very bottom level as long as you take something off the wages then you can get the deal done.

“So it just depends on how desperate Arsenal are to get him off the wage ball going in the next season.

“From what I’m hearing, and it isn’t a £10m purchase, it’s a loan to buy. Kevin and I obviously discussed how would that benefit Financial Fair Play.

“It would still get him off the wage bill, a percentage of which, Celtic will pay. So we’ve heard this £10m thing and the minute that gets floated some of the other clubs will have been interested in him.”

With Tierney’s contract coming to an end in 2026, Arsenal are clearly desperate to ensure they recoup much of the £25m they gave to Celtic for him.

But his recent injury record means a knock-down price and if they can get his massive wage bill off the books then The Gunners will see that as a huge plus.
