How the SFA can wriggle out of a potential battle with Celtic over Brendan Rodgers

Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic’s apparent battle with the SFA is set to take centre stage tomorrow as Brendan Rodgers attends court at Hampden to face his VAR charge.

Rodgers was cited after his comments about John Beaton after the Hearts loss at Tynecastle last month.

The SFA are now said to be in the sights of Celtic supremo, Dermot Desmond, and it seems that the Parkhead majority shareholder is going to go all the way to defend Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers faces a potential Ibrox dugout ban if found guilty by the national association but if the SFA want to placate Desmond, they have a pretty obvious out that they could use to do so.

SFA should show leniency to Brendan Rodgers

Whilst it does seem as though Rodgers has broken the SFA rules, a two-game ban would be the correct punishment by the letter of the law.

But with Desmond looking to rigorously defend his manager, the SFA could avoid their dirty linen being washed in public if they take A Celtic State of Mind‘s Sean Connolly’s advice.

Connolly said (A Celtic State of Mind), “As per the rules it’s a two-game ban. They can make it a suspended sentence which is what they can do.

“They could make it a suspended punishment but a two-game ban is written in the rules.”

The SFA and following rules is two things that simply don’t go together so I wouldn’t be surprised if they took an easy out and decided not to punish Rodgers.

The hearing is scheduled for tomorrow so it will be extremely interesting to see how this plays out.
