Last week, Keith Jackson warned that there would be players inside the Ibrox dressing room who would have been less than happy with the appointment of Michael Beale.
Now, I know what you are going to say. Who pays any attention to what he says?
But when you think that Jackson is usually cheerleading the Ibrox side, this is something that should have been paid attention to by the Govan hierarchy.
Writing in the Daily Record, Jackson said “If Wilson is not aware that there are players inside that dressing room who were perfectly content to see the back of Gerrard and his entire coaching crew, then he’s not done his due diligence.
“Because there were plenty of them. And if he’s banking on Beale instantly reuniting a squad which appeared so divided and disharmonious under Van Bronckhorst, then he could be in for a nasty surprise.
“If there are some festering sores still inside the camp, Beale’s return could cause those faultlines to run even deeper and become even more destabilising than they were under the Dutchman.“
So this, in part, explains Beale’s strange Celtic comments yesterday.
That explains why he has been trying to get his players onside with the nonsensical “we’re as good as them” p*sh when no one outside Ibrox really believes it.
Hell, I would imagine there are plenty players in that dressing room that thought ‘WTF are you on about?’ when Beale came away with that rubbish last night.
What we can be certain of is that the ‘new manager bounce’ that many teams see whenever a new gaffer takes the helm could well be missing when the league resumes in less than two weeks time.
Make no mistake. Beale’s first game 8n the dugout is a must win.
Fail to do that and the clock will be ticking already on what is destined to be a short managerial career in Glasgow.
