Former Sevco star sees the light on Ibrox ‘honest mistakes’

We all know that referees give the big decisions in favour of one side of Glasgow in their own backyard.

It has been going on for decades but now, the Govan loyal, would have you believe that it is Celtic who are benefitting more from the ‘honest mistakes’.

And to the layman, it looks like they are. But to me and many other Celtic fans, the scrutiny on referees means that there are always eyes on them so when they do get them so obviously wrong, it cannot be as blatant as to what we have witnessed in the past.

You don’t need me to tell you all the countless decisions in past Glasgow Derby’s that have gone against us. Remember the famous penalty that was given in a cup final even though the ref didn’t see the foul?

Yeah. That’s just one.

However, former Sevco player David Bates has now bemoaned the refereeing calls at Ibrox, which when he plied his trade there he was very quiet about, after his club Aberdeen lost 1-0 after a contentious build up to the Rangers goal suggested there was a foul before and a handball during Roofe’s route to goal.

Speaking after the match, Bates said, “The gaffer has said that we have got a lot of hard work to do in the next week. Obviously he is going to get his ideas across. That can only be good for us. We will get on the same page and look forward to it.

“I thought we defended pretty well throughout. We tried to be organised at the back and keep it tighter. That was the gaffer’s first point when he came in and I think we did do that.

“Obviously it was disappointing to concede late on, but I thought we defended pretty well throughout. I was so disappointed coming in after that late goal. It was not a great goal to concede, either.

“The boys were saying there was a foul in the build-up. When the first cross came in there was a foul on Calvin Ramsay.

“I am sure it was a foul. I thought Bassey jumped into him. You don’t get the big calls at Ibrox so we just need to move on.”

Yeah, move on. It’s weird how the blue fog lifts you can see what’s happening right before your eyes.
