“I Think They’ll Score More Goals” – Pat Bonner Tips Celtic Win In Holland
Last night’s Europa League win against AZ Alkmaar was monumental for two reasons. The first one is obvious. A two goal cushion to take to Holland in the second leg was crucial. Going forward Celtic are devastating. The relentless press and pressure coupled with the dangerous Furuhashi makes it a nightmare for defenders to play against.
The second, and most important reason, was this was the first real test of this team. The first glimpse of Ange Postecoglou’s style against quality opposition and the team passed. Yes there was a couple of hairy moments where Joe Hart had to intervene with a couple of saves but that’s his job. He passed as well.
We have the makings of a team that is the real deal.
And former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner thinks this team can go to Holland and win.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Bonner was extremely happy with the performance and fancies the Hoops to cruise into the group stages next Thursday, “The way that Celtic played especially the first half. Getting the goal then almost going for the jugular with probably about seven or eight chances in that first half.
“But always looked a little bit vulnerable on the counter attack so it was an excellent game actually. I thought out Alkmaar came into it not second half and maybe controlled things a lot better.
“Celtic didn’t press them as high as they did in the first half. You’re right it is not over by any means. It will be a really interesting game.
“I think they’ll score more goals. I think there’s another chance for them to score a goal, and without the away goal rule now, I think that gives them a real real chance to go forward.“
