Martin O’Neill’s team was known for tough, hard to break down and for their flair in the attack.
With Jackie Mac and Didier Agathe in the wing back position and Stan Petrov, Alan Thompson and Neil Lennon in the middle of the park, the balance of the team was second to none.
And to think i haven’t even pu Paul Lambert and Alan Thompson in there as well.
But could you just imagine if Scott Brown was added to that midfield at that time? And Kevin Thompson?
That’s what Martin O’Neill revealed he was wanting to do when he was the Celtic boss.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, O’Neill said, “All I do remember is that young Thompson and Brown both playing at the time and that we would have been interested at that stage.
“I’m not saying that they will have walked straight into the Celtic first team as one or two of our midfield players were just getting a little bit older but it would have been fantastic.
“But it’s interesting to to talk about Kevin Thompson because as I say, I don’t know enough about his outside football career but he was a really exceptional player.“
Broony, Lennon and Lambert all in the same midfield.
That would have been amazing.
