Of all the strange conspiracy theories out there being peddled by Rangers fans, we never thought BBC commentator Liam MacLeod being called out for how he speaks about Celtic and Aberdeen would be one of them.
Celtic are fighting out the title race with Rangers and Hearts this season as the pressure begins to ramp up as the games tick down.
However, Celtic prepare to face Stuttgart in the Europa League, Scottish Cup ties were being played out over the last 48 hours.
And as Aberdeen beat Motherwell, a Rangers fan dreamt up this strange Celtic conspiracy theory online.
Strange that Liam McLeod doesn’t refer to Aberdeen as “the cup holders” as often as he refers to another team as “the Champions”.

Must be difficult being so consumed with Celtic pain as a Rangers fan, that watching two entirely different teams play in completely different competition makes one Ibrox supporter act so foolishly.
And it wasn’t long before Celtic fans were ripping this statement apart.
Rangers fan’s bizarre statement about BBC man Liam MacLeod and Celtic ripped apart
It’s best to set the tone early and show which team McLeod supports first to show how much this guy is consumed by Celtic.
Absolutely rent free. What a take!! Boy is a paid up Aberdeen fan and you come to this conclusion! 😲 🤡

Celtic fan @0420h3id replied, “Watching a cup tie with nothing to do with Celtic yet your inferiority complex is so strong it still ruins the experience for you and you are crying about imaginary bias.
“Celtic have been champions for 13 of the last 14 years, it’s probably second nature to most.”
And when the Rangers fan was called out for tweeting about Celtic when the game had nothing to with the Bhoys, that set of this superb reply:
Your the one talking about Celtic ya fu–ing banger

@henkybhoy was brutal in his reply and bit back, “Cup holders? I hope this is a wind up because cups mean nothing without a league behind it too.
“Petrofac style banter ya weapon. League without cup is a million times cup without league and you know that ya bell-endio, and maybe not in a pandemic too ya cheating *****!”
The last word had to be edited out but let’s just say it sounded like ‘dunts’.
It takes a special kind of ‘weapon’ to get angry at a commentator for stating the objective reality that Celtic are the champions of Scotland.
Perhaps if certain fans spent less time counting Liam McLeod’s comments and more time counting their own club’s trophies, they wouldn’t feel so ‘strange’ after all.
The Fact-Check: Why ‘The Champions’ Always Outweighs ‘The Cup Holders’
To satisfy the reality the Rangers fan ignored, there is a clear hierarchy in sports broadcasting:
- League Title = Primary Identifier: In professional commentary, the reigning league winner is referred to as “The Champions” as a standard prefix. It defines the club’s status over a 38-game season.
- Cup Title = Tournament Identifier: While Aberdeen are the current Scottish Cup holders, this label is typically reserved for cup-specific broadcasts.
- The Verdict: Liam McLeod isn’t showing bias; he is following standard BBC Editorial Guidelines for sports reporting.
