A Celtic supporter left Hugh Keevins scrambling for answers on Clyde Superscoreboard after challenging the pundit’s claim that there’s been a “shift in the balance of power” in Glasgow.
Keevins is famous for his wildly over-the-top Celtic predictions as the pundit regularly comes unde fire from the Hoops support.
A Celtic supporter left the pundit scrambling for answers on after challenging his claim that there’s been a “shift in the balance of power” in Glasgow between Celtic and Rangers.
The exchange quickly went viral among supporters, with many praising the caller for bringing facts and perspective into a debate often driven by a Hugh Keevins Celtic narrative rather than results.
Celtic fan challenges Hugh Keevins live on air over Rangers “power shift” claim
Yeah, you read that correctly, Keevins believes there has been ‘a shift in power’ between Celtic and Rangers despite the Ibrox club winning nothing so far this season.
The caller, clearly prepared, dismantled the argument by referencing history, trophies and the simple fact that Celtic remain ahead [prior to the Aberdeen call off] in the current Scottish Premiership league standings.
A Celtic fan called Superscoreboard and said, “I’ve been trying to get a hold of Hugh Keevins. You actually said that there is a shift in the balance of power in Glasgow.
“I am of an age where I remember the 90s when Rangers won nine-in-a-row and Celtic stopped ten in 97/98.
“And then Rangers won the league the next season again.
“At the end that season, when Martin O’Neill first came to Celtic, he won a treble.
“Now to me, that signifies a shift in the balance of power, and by the way, that power has gone on for a quarter of a century.
“So Hugh, I just want to know the metrics you’re using, or what tangible achievements made you come to the conclusion that there’s a shift in the balance of power?”
Celtic history used to expose Hugh Keevins’ weak Rangers argument
Celtic’s trophy history, especially over the last 25 years, is rich in silverware and glory as Rangers’ off-pitch struggles continued until they died in 2012.
And that was used to expertly dismantle Keevins’ weird Rangers comments.
Keevins: “You’ve given us an accurate history lesson, Gary, but I am confining myself to this season.”
Celtic fan: “So you’re confining it to this season? Okay, at the minute of the league finished today, this precise moment, Celtic are above Rangers, still.”
Keevins: “If Rangers won the league, it’s shift in power.”
Celtic fan: “Rangers haven’t won anything yet. See when Celtic won the league to stop nine-in-a-row in 97/98, that didn’t signify a shift in the balance of power, because Rangers won the the league the next season.”
Keevins: “I repeat. You’re now telling me about something that happened 28 years ago. I’m trying to confine my remarks to this season.”
Celtic fan: “You’re remarks don’t apply to this season, yet. Wait till there’s a tangible achievement or a metric to measure that.”
Keevins: “As you as you must do at the same time.”
Celtic fan: “We have dominated the game for the last 25 years.”
Keevins: “How many times you go to say 25 years or something that happened 28 years ago? If I have to wait, then so must you.”
Keevins is a pundit who regularly attempts to court controversy with his wild Celtic and Rangers predictions and it’s great to see him left speechless live on air.
With no basis to prove his claim other than his usual hyperbole, Keevins left himself exposed again and will be seen as a figure of fun amongst many Celtic supporters after this exchange.
