The SFA official at Celtic Park who was ‘gagging’ for a Dundee win

Celtic’s dramatic win against Dundee in the Scottish Cup is the type of victory that leaves fans buzzing.

The Celtic Park win against Dundee clash left more than just the final score making headlines.

One SFA official, Douglas Ross, drew attention for a controversial flagging decision that had Celtic supporters scratching their heads.

With Celtic trailing 1-0, Benjamin Nygren had the ball in the net when Ross flagged for it to be out of play, a call that didn’t look clear-cut from multiple angles.

And it was a decision that baffled ACAOM’s resident referee Sean Connolly as he called out Ross’ keenness to ensure the goal was immediately chalked off.

SFA linesman Douglas Ross called out for bizarre Celtic decision vs Dundee

Sean was speaking after Sebastian Tounekti and Junior Adamu’s Celtic goals ensured the Bhoys progressed to the quarter final of the Scottish Cup.

Sean said on A Celtic State of Mind, “Then, when we’re one nil down, Nygren has the ball in the net, and Douglas Ross flags for the ball out of play.

“Now, it didn’t look out of play in the first viewing. They go back and show it again with the sideline angle, and it doesn’t look out of play from that angle either.

“So, Michael Stewart, whoever’s commentating, says it doesn’t look out of play.

“Beyond that, why is he even flagging for it? If it’s ambiguous, he should be leaving it. If it’s not clearly out of play, he should be leaving that and having a VAR review, letting it play out.

“That is the standard practice at the moment. But Douglas, ‘red, red, red Ross’ could not get his flag up fast enough to flag that. He was gagging for a Dundee win tonight and we disappointed him.”

Why Celtic Fans Questioned the Official

From the sideline angle, it was clear the ball was likely still in play. Standard officiating practice suggests letting ambiguous situations play out and allowing VAR review if necessary.

Yet Ross’s flag went up instantly, leading commentators to question what was behind his decision to flag.

The swiftness of the decision left Celtic supporters and neutral observers alike questioning his judgment.

Celtic Park Controversy Over SFA Decisions

The incident has reignited debate over refereeing standards at Celtic Park.

While VAR is meant to correct human error, the speed and decisiveness of Ross’s flag left little room for review.

Fans argue that letting play continue would have been the fairer option, which is how similar situations are handled across top leagues in Europe.
