Charlie Mulgrew ends the debate of who is the best player between Celtic's Arne Engels and Rangers' Nico Raskin.

Charlie Mulgrew ends Arne Engels vs Nico Raskin debate after £25m Celtic bid

Arne Engels is Scotland’s hottest property after Celtic turned down multi-million pound transfer bids in the January window.

Nottingham Forest finally offer £25m for the Celtic star as Engels proved that the £11m invested in him 18 months ago is clearly paying off.

Engels was instrumental in Celtic winning a double in his first season, and Champions League progression last season. Whereas Nico Raskin has struggled to win silverware and has no Champions League experience.

With Engels having medals on the table and performing in UEFA’s elite competition, that was enough to convince Sean Dyche to open up the chequebook for the Celtic midfielder.

That offer made Rangers fans gaze enviously over at Celtic as they wondered why their own Belgian, Nico Raskin, wasn’t courting that kind of attention.

And Charlie Mulgrew, while saying he thought Raskin was the better player, ends the debate with a subtle dig at the Rangers midfielder.

Charlie Mulgrew’s subtle Rangers dig as Arne Engels earns £25m transfer bid

When asked what Raskin is worth after the £25m Engels bid Mulgrew told The Go Radio Football Show, “That’s a good point. For me, Raskin, at the moment, is a better player.

“He looks like the Rangers player that’s going to create and make something happen.

“Sometimes he tries to do too much. He’s trying to be everywhere. But technically, I would say Engels is probably a better striker of the ball, better delivery of the ball, better passer.

“That’s just a small part of the game. Raskin’s a much better player. Ahead him in the Belgian team.

“So if that’s what the price is, then you wonder why there’s not been any bids for Raskin at that price.”

That little comment, ‘you wonder why there’s not been any bids for Raskin at that price’ is a subtle dig that, while Mulgrew may believe Raskin is the better player, clearly teams in England don’t.

How many bids did Raskin get in the transfer window? That tells Celtic fans all they need to know.
