Celtic fans are, quite rightly, casting suspious eyes over the board about the lack of transfers.
Celtic have lost out on Kyogo, Jocelin Ta Bi and now it also looks like Callum Wilson will say no to the Bhoys as Nicholson & Co scramble about trying to find Martin O’Neill a striker.
The Celtic manager has been at pains to point out that a new forward is a matter of priority but now, 16 days into the transfer window and all the Hoops have managed to snag is a right fullback.
It’s a complete shambles again from Celtic who are proving that when it comes to transfers, they are a disorganised mess.
And Celtic blogger Joe McHugh has a theory on why Nicholson and Celtic are taking their time about spending money on transfers.
Michael Nicholson’s top priority at Celtic, it’s not transfers
Discussing Celtic’s need for a striker and how Martin O’Neill is being left high and dry, McHugh has his own opinion on the lack of transfers at the Parkhead club.
McHugh told the Trinity Tims podcast, “If next Wednesday Celtic are heading off to Bologna and there’s no striker on board, Martin O’Neill should be having a word with some directors, putting in a phone call to his friend Dermot Desmond or just saying, ‘Sorry lads I underestimated the size of this job’.
“But Martin O’Neill, great manager, but does a lot of Q&A sessions and people that do a lot of Q&A sessions are usually quite keen for readies.
“So I don’t think Martin O’Neill is going to walk away from a salary from now to the end of the season, but hopefully he’s putting as much pressure on Dermot Desmond as possible to get Nicholson or whoever to do a job.
“But Nicholson’s one and only achievement, like Peter, is keeping Celtic from liquidation.”
Celtic are so far from liquidation, it’s unreal. But the general crux of Joe’s point is spot on.
Celtic’s priority is the balance sheet. The sales of Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah from under the manager’s feet proves that.
Don’t forget, we are 16 days into the January window and only one player has been signed by Celtic as Hearts and Rangers strengthen.
That tells Celtic fans all they need to know now, doesn’t it?
