Celtic star Benjamin Nygren speaking to CelticTV after beating Falkirk at the Falkirk Stadium.

Benjamin Nygren wasn’t Celtic’s Man of the Match vs Falkirk, three players’ stats were far better

Celtic beat Falkirk in a tough away trip which was even tougher to watch.

Martin O’Neill orchestrated a vital three points where a Wilfried Nancy or even a Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic would have faltered.

Benjamin Nygren scored the only goal of a turgid game as Celtic left the Falkirk Stadium with all three points.

You can watch the goal below.

But as the Celtic midfielder was given the Man of the Match at the end of the game, that decision made no sense.

Because there were three Celtic stars who all had better performances than Nygren as the stats from Fotmob show.

Kasper Schmeichel, Liam Scales and Arne Engels were excellent for Celtic vs Falkirk

Kasper Schmeichel was solid in the Celtic goal providing five saves at crucial moments in the match to avoid allowing the Hoops to go behind.

Another midfielder, Arne Engels also had a good performance as he battled in the heart of the Celtic midfield.

And in the defence, Liam Scales was solid as he marshalled the Falkirk attackers to help keep another clean sheet.

Here are the best of the stats below:

Player Rating Passing Accuracy Long Balls / Crosses Defensive Actions
Kasper Schmeichel 8.5 ★ 78% (21/27) 6/12 Long Balls 5 Saves / 2 High Claims
Liam Scales 8.0 92% (68/74) 4/7 Long Balls 4 Clearances / 2 Interceptions
Arne Engels 7.8 85% (44/52) 2/3 Crosses 3 Key Passes / 1 Assist
Benjamin Nygren 7.7 74% (17/23) 1/2 Crosses 1 Goal / 3 Touches in Box

Schmeichel was the clear winner for the Man of the Match award and he deserved it after the Celtic goalkeeper kept the team in the game five times.

The big Dane has been underfire for the majority of the season and being recognised for his performance would have been a huge confidence boost.

  1. Absolutely right. Nygren’s goal was the crucial moment but over the piece, Kssper, Liam and carnivore the pick. Tuners was often marked by 2 Falkirk players, they had done their homework from the finder Unites match.
Mon was disappointed about the drop off but we were away in a plastic pitch against a very well coached side.
    Reinforcements especially a striker now.
