Daizen Maeda doesn’t look all that happy at Celtic right now.
And who can blame him? Denied a summer transfer move by Celtic at the last minute, Daizen Maeda probably feels let down by those at the club.
The Japanese striker was rumoured to leave Celtic in the summer as he looked to move on to a bigger league for the upcoming World Cup.
But that move never happened and as Celtic meandre their way through the January transfer window, Japan-based Celtic blogger Liam Carrigan has shared what the country’s media is saying about the Hoops striker’s immediate future.
Daizen Maeda to stay at Celtic ‘until the World Cup’
Liam is the go-to guy for any whispers about Celtic’s Japanese players in their country’s media circles. And speaking about Maeda the ACSOM blogger and contributor shared some good news for the Parkhead support.
Liam told A Celtic State of Mind, “Now, what I would say is what the Japanese press are saying.
“Now, bear in mind, the Japanese press told me yesterday that Kyogo was set to sign [for Celtic], so don’t put complete stock in what they say. But they generally don’t run a story unless they’re confident on it.
“They think that Daizen is staying put until the World Cup because, well, he saw what happened to Kyogo last year. Right. You can go get your big money move, go to a bigger league, even if it’s to a smaller club, and you can just disappear.
“It can happen. Now, where Daizen is now, he’s going to be playing high profile games. He’s got a chance to help us win a league title.”
Daizen Maeda told to stay and help Celtic win the title
Maeda is the first-name on the Celtic team sheet and if he moved this January, he is not even guaranteed game time at a new club, never mind making their starting XI.
Which is why Liam offers these words of advice for the Celtic striker, “He’s getting a game for Japan at the moment, just on the basis of being a Celtic player.
“Does he want to risk going to somebody like Wolfsburg, who with the greatest of respect, they’re in a better league but they don’t have the profile we do.
“If he gets there and he doesn’t hit the ground running, and he’s not getting a game, ta-ta to the World Cup.”
Maeda’s best move is to have a sterling World Cup campaign so that bigger teams than Wolfsburg come calling for him.
Because as he showed in Celtic’s games against Bayern Munich last season, Maeda’s pace and work rate terrified some of the world’s best players and he could showcase that in the summer tourmanent.
