Celtic had a small mystery surrounding their accounts being submitted to HMRC this week.
As a club, Celtic are in rude financial health with tens of millions of pounds in the bank.
They also have a decent player-trading model that has seen Celtic bank over £300m in the last ten years.
The expertise Celtic have regarding their finances means that there are people at the club who know what they are doing, right?
But it seemed there was a problem when the HMRC website reported that Celtic’s accounts were late being submitted and it threatened to be an embarrassment for the club.
But it seems that the mystery has been cleared up by finance expert Kieran Macguire.
Celtic accounts ‘signed off months ago’ despite HMRC website report
As Celtic fans looked for answers on the strange error with the accounts, Maguire shares that there is a simple explanation.
Maguire said on X, “Celtic have submitted their accounts by post before 31 December rather than online and this is why they have not yet appeared at Companies House, so apologies from me.
“Audit report dated 19 September though. Accounts have been up on website for some time.
“It’s a funny one. Accounts were due to be presented at the AGM, which was abandoned as you may be aware, but both board and auditors signed off months ago.”
So there is nothing to see here, and this will annoy the Sevo support who would have been hoping and praying for some financial impropriety.
