Wilfried Nancy takes in a post-match interview after Celtic beat Aberdeen

Journalist’s grim transfer window warning just before Celtic sacked Wilfried Nancy

Celtic finally did the right thing and sacked Wilfried Nancy yesterday afternoon.

Nancy was shown the Celtic door after a run of horrific results made him the worst Hoops manager of all time.

The Frenchman looked so far out of his depth it was unreal, and it appears that Celtic’s defeat to Rangers was the last straw.

As well as Nancy looking clueless, the team looked disjointed and clearly not impressed with how the 49-year-old wanted them to play.

And after six defeats in eight, Nancy has been let go after we told of rumours surrounding his Celtic future.

Which is probably just as well considering the grim transfer warning Celtic fans were given by journalist Ryan McDonald had the Frenchman stayed at the Bhoys.

The ‘Mowbray’ Repeat: Why Celtic’s January Plans are ‘Stop-Gap’ Only

Celtic need quality reinforcements if they were to get their title challenge back on track under Nancy.

But the message was grim from McDonals as he told of ‘Tony Mowbray-style’ signings coming Celtic’s way had Nancy’s tenure continued.

McDonald told the Record Celtic podcast, “I think they’ve done a lot of planning into this January window, which by the way, I can see going exactly the way it went under Tony Mowbray.

“You’re going to get a raft of loan signings in, just stop gap signings because as Peter Lawwell has said in the past, this is notoriously a difficult window to sign players.

“And it is, but if Celtic done their job right in in the summer they won’t be in this mess.

“So they need two strikers, this is an absolute bare minimum and I’m sure he’s probably identified players from the MLS.

“Are the Celtic board going to fork out millions of pounds, probably pay over the odds given the amount of money that they’ve got in the bank?

“Are they going to pay over the odds to back Wilfried Nancy?”

Watch his full grim prediction below:

Thankfully, Nancy is now gone and with Martin O’Neill in charge until the end of the season, the January transfer window can be looked upon with more optimism by the Celtic support.

The legend’s return will bring stability to the club, and many Celtic supporters will believe that with O’Neill at the helm, the league title is very much there to be won.

  1. I hope Silent Bald had the grace to apologise to Wilf Nancy. The fault lay with him and the shambolic manner his board treats managers – from the shameful termination of BR, the disrespect shown to MO’N and the mysterious omni-shambles of the 33 day reign which happened on his watch. Cause and effect – as CEO the blame is his. Yet on he blunders, out of his depth and out of sync with the club’s support. Clueless, he can’t be trusted to continue. Nicholson is the problem and so can not be part of the solution.
