Fergus McCann dragged Celtic out of the painful 90s and turned the club into what is it today.
The Canadian businessman was a life-long Celtic supporter when he took over the club, and by the time he left the club five years later, McCann was a hero and legend to the fans.
However, when McCann handed sold his 19.8% shareholding to Dermot Desmond, he did so in the knowledge that the long-term financial stability of Celtic would be secured.
But I bet he never saw the events of what has been happening over he last few months unfolding. And Phil Mac Giolla Bhain says what’s happening at Celtic now will shock the Canadian.
The ‘last thing’ Fergus McCann would have wanted for Celtic
Fergus McCann has always maintained that Celtic should never be owned by one figure.
Unfortunately, that appears to be what is happening now and Phil says McCann would be saddened to see what is going on at Celtic right now.
In his latest blog, Phil said, “This is not what Fergus McCann wanted for Celtic when his five-year plan was successfully concluded.
“Having ousted the old board, the last thing he wanted was for the club he saved to become an absolute monarchy.
“In the long, sad story of the work experience PR effort at Parkhead, this is probably the lowest so far.”
Even though Desmond is a minority shareholder, the Irish billionaire is allowed to do whatever he wants at Celtic.
And until that changes, Celtic fans will continue to fight for change at the club.
