Journalist Mark Guidi talking about Celtic and Rangers

Celtic fans will be delighted at Mark Guidi’s furious criticism of the Scottish media and Rangers

The Rangers fan treatment of Russell Martin has been nothing but abhorrent and Celtic fan have been calling it out for weeks.

Rangers fans threatened Martin by posting sinister videos online appearing to bully the former Ibrox manager to leave the club.

Then there was the vitriol from the Ibrox stands as some fans worried that Martin would be attacked due to the feral nature of their behaviour.

Even World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit called the Rangers fans out. But as Celtic supporters, like this site, continued to call it out, the silence from the Scottish media was deafening.

Until now.

Mark Guidi calls out media silence on Rangers fan behaviour towards Russell Martin

Mark Guidi isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade and when he witnessed what Martin had gone through over the last few weeks, the journalist didn’t hold back.

Guidi told The Go Radio Football Show, “I said it a few weeks ago, if that had happened to Barry Ferguson, or somebody we know that is Scottish, Derek McInnes, Neil McCann, whatever it may be, the media would have been lambasting it and calling out the small band of Rangers that had taken it too far.

“But they didn’t, for whatever reason, it’s not been highlighted enough. Because, okay, Russell Martin’s Scottish, but he’s not lived here, he’s not from here, he’s not really been taken to, or wasn’t taken to from the start being a fan.

“However, put that aside, that’s not a way to go about your business. There’s losing football games, there’s being angry, there’s not having the manager. I get all that, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

“But, to take it to that kind of level, it’s not acceptable. And had that been happening to Barry Ferguson, we would have been outraged, absolutely outraged, and would have been calling it out every night.”

There is no doubt Rangers supporters shamed Scottish football with their antics towards Martin and it’s just a pity it’s taken so long for people to start catching up with Celtic fans on this issue.
