Dermot Gallagher talking about Celtic on Sky Sports' Ref Watch.

Dermot Gallagher and Sky Sports clamp David Martindale’s bitter Celtic VAR tears

David Martindale is definitely bitter about Celtic, isn’t he?

The Livingston boss went on two spectacular rants over the weekend as Martindale had a complete meltdown over a penalty awarded against his side that meant he lost 3-2 to Dundee.

Martindale took a pop at Celtic’s penalty award at Kilmarnock to try and back up his bitter VAR rant on Saturday.

He then went onto a pro-Rangers rant that even Celtic fans would have been surprised at as Martindale’s mask slipped big time.

But it seems his crying is somewhat premature after Dermot Gallagher delivered his verdict on the penalty that had Martindale throw a Celtic hissy-fit this weekend.

Gallagher was asked about Dundee’s penalty award at the weekend and what he said is likely to cause Martindale to self-combust.

Gallagher told Ref Watch on Sky Sports, “I think it’s penalty. I think he dangles his leg. And if you watch the defender, he thinks it’s a penalty as well, because he gives himself up. He puts sand on his head as much to say, ‘What have I done?’.

Gallagher’s fellow panelist concurred and said, “That’s just a tired, clumsy challenge. Really, the winger is going at him, what he really has to do is just run him down to the line and slide to stop him getting the ball in the box.

“But obviously he’s put a leg out there, the winger has got no place to go, and he’s just run into him.

“He’s left his leg there, and you just run into the leg. It’s a penalty. It’s good play.”

Poor David. He can’t seem to catch a break. Let’s hope his bad luck continues to send him, Livingston and that God-awful pitch back down to the Championship.
