Russell Martin’s self-destruction of Rangers has made popcorn viewing for Celtic supporters.
The Ibrox boss has come under severe pressure after a failure to win any of his first five games opened up a nine-point gap to Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Martin was brought in to close the gap to Celtic but it seems that after his poor start, Rangers are looking at potential replacements for the vegan gaffer.
But if Martin loses to Hibs and gets knocked out of the Premier Sports Cup, what would his severance package be?
Phil Mac Giolla Bhain reveals all.
The eye watering seven-figure some Rangers need to pay Russell Martin
Martin appears to be on a very healthy pay-packet at Rangers and even before taking into account his backroom staff, the Ibrox club could be out of pocket by a healthy chunk of change if they decide he’s no longer their man.
In his latest blog, Phil said, “Now the Ibrox klanbase want Russell Martin binned.
“My information is that the Enlightened One is on £25k per week.
“If his severance package is, as I’ve been told, equivalent to 1.5 times his annual salary, then it will cost the Delaware Crew £1.95m to be shot of him.
”Of course, that doesn’t account for the rest of his backroom team and I believe that the club aromatherapist is on a decent wedge.”
I’m not sure if that last statement was meant to be a joke, but the way that club is run, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was true.
And the best part? If Rangers do sack Russell Martin, and severance pay will be taken out of his replacements transfer budget. Oh how The Banter Years roll on!
Celtic, on the other hand, face Patrick Thistle tomorrow afternoon.
Brendan Rodgers’ press conference was edited by the Celtic media team to remove a question about the possible Parkhead coward.
So it seems that Martin may not be the only person set to leave Glasgow soon if the heat doesn’t die down on him.
