Jamie Vardy to Celtic has to be the most bizarre rumour of the summer.
At 39, Vardy has somehow found himself being mentioned for a move to Celtic.
And I get it. Celtic are desperate for a striker and Vardy is desperate for a club.
Since he left Leicester in May, there have been no takers for the former England forward until the Celtic rumours started. Funny that.
And it appears that journalist, Pete O’Rourke, knows how Vardy feels about a move to Celtic now just as the strange rumours seem to be dying down.
Jamie Vardy is ‘quite relaxed’ about Celtic rumours
This site has consistently said Celtic should avoid signing Vardy as he doesn’t fit with the style of player the club requires. Plus, at 39, he has no future resale value.
However, it appears that Vardy is not as desperate to move to Celtic as some news sites would have fans believe.
O’Rourke told The Inside Track, “I don’t think it’s as advanced as people are suggesting. Obviously, my understanding is Jamie Vardy is quite relaxed over his future. He’s obviously not going to rush in to anything.
“He will wait and see what offers do come in for him. And then if the season, if the window was to close and he’s a free agent, and maybe other options open up, then he could really move in. And if clubs are in desperate need of strikers as well.
“It’s a surprise that he’s still without a club having left, lesser than the last season. We know what a prolific striker Jamie Vardy is and what he can offer to teams. It’s an obvious link with Celtic due to the Brendan Rodgers connection.
“And obviously Celtic are in the market for new forwards. Obviously they have struggles, they’ve been lacking in depth up front as well. Maeda has been playing up there, Adam Idah as well.
“But I think they obviously want to move Maeda back to his left wing position as well.
“So look, Celtic will need to bring in more forwards, there’s no doubt about that.”
Celtic do need to bring in forwards but let’s reiterate again, the striker question the club has, Vardy is not that answer.
Let’s hope this is the last we hear of this nonsense.
