The lack of media scrutiny about Rangers hiring Barry Ferguson is a source of superb hilarity for Celtic fans.
After Rangers sacked Philippe Clement, the Ibrox club turned to Ferguson in the hope that he could revive their hope to close the gap to Celtic.
The interim Rangers boss takes on Kilmarnock in his first game as the new gaffer alongside the EBT Team of Billy Dodds and Neil McCann who will also be supported by Allan McGregor.
But it seems Celtic hero Pat Bonner raised a serious question about McGregor’s credentials to be a coach at Rangers as BBC Sportsound fawned over the Ibrox club’s new gaffer.
Pat Bonner makes a ‘great point’ about Rangers coach’s credentials
Bonner said on Sportsound, “This is a great point, because, you know, Celtic and Rangers have an identity of difference. And, you know, if you’ve been around that club most of your life, and he has been the captain, has won trophies, and he would love to resurrect that.
“You listen to his interview there, he said all the right things, didn’t he?”
Gordon: “Absolutely, he came across well.”
Bonner: “All the things that you would expect from Barry Ferguson as somebody who has got a passion and a pride for his club, and he’s been there and done it before, obviously he’s got to get a tune out of his players, and that’s the question.
“He did say it’s about winning games, and I think we all agree to that as about winning games when you’re at these big clubs.
“Now he will have to rely on his coaching staff, I think. Obviously, the two that he’s brought in have got huge experience, good coaches.
“Obviously, Allan, the goalkeeper coach is probably one that I don’t know if he’s coached too much.
Gordon: “The suggestion seems to be that he hasn’t. Clearly, he knows goalkeeping, there’s no question about that.
Bonner: “Yes, and he’s got 11 weeks to help them. But you know, the other two have got lots of experience as coaches. It’ll be really interesting to see how and what they do to do with the squad.”
Barry Ferguson’s managerial record makes him the perfect Rangers for Celtic
Ferguson has a terrible record as a manager. That simply cannot be denied. He was hired simply to placate the Rangers fans and nothing else.
And if anyone wants to dispute that, here is his full managerial record which doesn’t include a single game in any top-flight league.
| Barry Ferguson managerial record | Played | Won | Drew | Lost | Points |
| Alloa | 33 | 9 | 7 | 17 | 1.03 |
| Clyde | 117 | 46 | 21 | 50 | 1.36 |
| Kelty Hearts | 13 | 8 | 0 | 5 | 1.85 |
| Blackpool | 20 | 3 | 5 | 12 | 0.70 |
At the time of writing, Ferguson’s managerial debut is going well as Kilmarnock lead the Ibrox club 2-0 with just 15 minutes played at Rugby Park.
